ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN LET BE, LETS YOU BE

I have written extensively on how we are very eager to find meaning things; how we travel with stories. We use stories to move from point A to B as humans, and that is it — it is the way humanity is designed to function. My interest isn’t in the content of the stories that we tell, but rather to draw our attention to the simple but yet profound fact that WE ARE THE ONE TELLING THE STORY. That narration that brings tears, is a story we made up. So what is my interest in all of this? Just so you know that you made it up and that if the purpose of the story is to help you cry, then you are fine.

You know in some movie roles, you are required to shed tears; so however you wish to make the tears happen is all up to you. So if the purpose of the story is to help you shed tears, great. As I wrote in an earlier piece, all coaching starts with a goal. What is your goal? We are frequently in a hurry to find meaning for something that has no meaning. A loved one dies suddenly? It has no meaning other than the meaning that we ascribe to the story. A close acquaintance is barren? It has no meaning other than the one we choose to ascribe to it.
